Hello from Chicago. So I got 7 baby red bellies back in august with the intention of upgrading to your a 150 gallon but life happens and now I can’t upgrade. Right now I have them in 65 gallon tank with a new Fluval 407 and a used marineland c360 that came with the tank. Is the filtration ok or is it over kill? I wanted to know how long I could keep those 7 in there and also what would be the best food? I’ve been feeding them blood worms and sometimes tilapia.

Tank is small, they will eventually start fighting / killing each other over territories. If you are going to keep them in that tank your best bet is to remove any driftwood and decor or places to claim. Filtration is definitely not overkill and you will definitely have to be up on water changes as well. If a tank upgrade is an option, I would do it ASAP.

As for diet, mixed is best. Variety of white fish fillets, some fats like salmon or beef heart, a good pellet etc.

Agreed get a 6 footer if you want to keep them all .
Also your filtration while it might seem like overkill now will catch up to probably not being enough pretty soon. Weekly water changes will help with that
