I sound like such a newbie posting this topic but here goes. I recently bought a 125g with a wet dry filter and have an extra 55g lying around. I want to set this up to hold either 3-5 pygos or 1-2 serras (divided of course).

I would like to know what you guys recommend I get in terms of filtration (non wet dry). I am looking to keep the price fairly minimal yet I want great filtration...

I would go with an AC500, almost 10X turnover and if you go with the serras, you will not have as much waist as a shoal of pygos. Plus at big als they are like $30.00 or something.

hell man why not just go with an emperor 400? i run a emperor 400 and a pengiun 330 in my 55 for my messy oscar of course.

I ran 2 emps on mine. I don't know how much they are right but when I bought mine they were only $30.

I never really had a powerhead when I had my 55 gaL, but an UGF. Newbie, I advice you NOT to use UGF.. for it might become fatal with your fish later on in the long run. Just use an AC 500 with frequent water changes, and your newly picked up Ps would love you back for it.

while we're talking about 55 gallons, is there such a thing as overfiltration? i wanna get an ac500 but its rated for 100 gallon tanks. do i need to worry about having too good of a filter? thanks, sorry for getting off topic

You can't overfilter. The more the better. I have an overturn rate 8-10times on my tanks.

YOu can never get enough of too much filteration. (its like asking too much for good oxygen). Now too much waterflow by forced current is different.

I would also get a powerhead with an attached undergravel filtration system set up, wel unless your anti-undergravel LOL

get something that is quiet and simple, some of the fancy filters have small things go wrong and stop working right, I use Whisperer filters on my small tanks

i like acuaclears they are simple and quite. i would like to have an undergravel but my dementions are odd.
