im looking for a quiet filter. the tank is in my room n i need it to be almost silent. any ideas? this needs to be as quiet as possible. thanks in advance.

My RenaXP3 isn't totally silent but I care barely hear it in the stand it's in. Eheims are also very quiet.

yeah Emp 400 is pretty quiet. Canister would be your best bet, but hang on back are good if you keep the water level high. Check out your LFS, they should have some Emps on the back of their tanks...

My EMP 400 used to make a bit of noise form vibration on the edge of the tank but i put a towel under it now its quiet as anything as long as the water level isnt low.

any good quality cannister.... powerfilters have spillways which create splashing water noises

My eheim 2026 is so quiet, i have to check it periodically to make sure it is still running.

i got one too..Eheim 2026 are extremely quiet. I recommend eheim but for power filter go with penguin 330,170 or emp 400

Every emp400 I have ever had is noisy....if not the impeller or vibration, it is the damn trickling. for a power filter go with an ac500...they are very quiet. But if I had a tank in my bed room I would have nothing but a eheim canister on it. I have 5 and they are totally silent!

thats because the AC doesnt have a biowheel which interupts flow and causes slashing noise

i just got a ac500 for my 55 gallon that i'm starting up and it does have a little rattle in the impeller. When i take the intake tube out it still rattles. Kinda makes me angry since it's brand new. Think this is just my filter or is it like this for anyone else?

I would take it back ASAP. I just bought an ac500 last week and it is perfectly silent (other than water spewing out of it back into the tank)

well i just took it off my tank and ran it without the intake but the bucket and all was full of water to make sure it wasnt' just a vibration and it rattle pretty bad. I'll call right now. Thanks filo you been a big help so far
