i have heard that ps should be kept in hard water. I have also heard that driftwood makes the water soft. Is this true? Will it kill my ps?

actually many of the P species prefer more acidic waters but most are very hardy and can adapt as long as the prameters are within range. As for the driftwood it is known to slightly lower pH over aa slow and steady course. Nothing devastating and in fact would be a good reccomendation for deccor to add in your tank. Just monitor you water parameters on a scheduled basis and you will be ok. :

Hard/soft water will not kill your piranhas, and driftwood certainly won't.

Unless you buy an extremely agressive piece of wood :laughlong:
fyi: I have about 5 pieces of driftwood/bogwood and 4 pieces of mangrove root in my piranha tank, and they love it (brushing against it, hiding behind it...)

driftwood and bogwood are good just remember to soak it(cure it) if your going to put in your tank or else you have dark brown water.
