I just bought 2 pink kissing grauomis today and I havent seen them at the surface for air. do they need surface air or will they do fine ataying beneath the surface

To be on the safe side I would always allow
access to atmospheric air, Kissing gourami are less dependent
on "air" then say a Croaking or Dwarf gourami, but they do
require it to some degree.

I agree, but you do that for all fish, even P's and cichlids. It allows for the greater exchange of oxygen if there's some surface above the waterline allowed for that exchange.

agreed - I would not worry, they do breath air, but they will be fine as long as they have access to it.

they have access to air, they just don't breathe it. the surface is agitated from a powerhead pointed upward, thats how I get oxygen and exchange gasses.
