i am thinking about making a tank that is 96in long, 24in wide, 16 tall.

can i use a diffrent type of material for the bottom? for these dimensions it would only take one sheet of glass or acrylic and all i would have to do is find a bottom, and i was thinking since you dont even see the bottom if i could use some other nontransparent material.

any one have any info on DIY tanks?

If you're using acrylic... no way. The adhesive creates a chemical bond between the two sheets almost like they're melted together. If you want to use glass... think again. You're pocket will be destroyed. That much glass at that thickness is hella expensive. go with acrylic and you wont be dissappointed. And by the way, if you don't have alot of construction experience, find something better to do. I am very skillful in that trade and I've had two tanks bust on me... bring on the third. Which brings up another point... quit while you're ahead.

if i use cell cast acryllic instead of glass, do the same rules still pertain to acryllic as of glass?

e.g. if it is 20" high, you need 3/8" thick glass? so would i be fine using 3/8" thick acryllic? or do i need thicker?

my plan is to build a tank that has the dimensions: 144"x20"x24"
