your filters are what hold your bacteria, bio media.
your water is the end product which kills off harmful nitrites and ammonia

what kind of filter do you have?

nope, no need. most breeders will keep a bare tank......easier to clean.

Emps are great for holding bacteria on thier wheels

You use eithera bunch of small fish, like neons, or do a fishless cycle with ammonia. Or you could always use bio-spira.
