Will a CPR wet/dry filter be sufficient filtration? My tank is 120 gal and the CPR handles up to 150 gal. It was previously used for my marine aquarium.
Won't the oils left by food etc. make it necessary to have a protein skimmer for a freshwater tank?

Well I have never heard of CPR but in genreal you need a ton more filtration for Piranha than most fish. You can try it, really depends on the bio load you will have.

As for a skimmer its not needed. Freshwater tanks you change water more often than saltwater. For example in one of my tanks I change 20 gallons every 3 to 4 days.

Not too sure on the protein skimmer, usually not needed for freshwater. The CPR is fine, I have a smaller one, worked great.
