Hey!

So my fish are growing rapidly and I'm looking at needing to upgrade the aquarium within the next 8-12 months. I'll be going from 125 gallon to about 245. As I've been shopping around I can't find anything in the range locally for less than about 5k. I know that's not unusual but thought I would put the feelers out and see if any of your more experienced keepers have a line on better deals for large aquariums? Or if any western Canadian keepers might be looking to sell something in that range.

I also spoke to a guy who swears by plywood aquariums (I won't repeat my initial response to that here lol). Anyone out there have experience with waterproofed plywood for the purposes of an aquarium? I have plenty of carpentry skills and it would bring costs down considerably but I'm more than a little suspicious.

Waterproofed / pond liner is an option if done right.

For large tanks, finding one used and picking it up has been my best bet in the past. I am not sure what freight / duty and import costs would be from the US.

Appreciate the Response. I'll keep hunting around. Shipping from the US gets prohibitive quickly. Likely just have to bite the bullet on this one.

Going to pick up my permit for handgun soon too, so that's another expense(on top of getting ammo around here, since can't ship from US either. Would love some cheap bulk .45 acp ammo like .45 ACP Ammo - GritrSports.com though!)

If you find something, share I'm not in need right now, but it looks like I'll need upgrade next year

When did tanks become so Damn expensive? I’ve been out of the hobby for about 10 yrs now and considered buying a 125G… I about died!!!

Hahaha I wish! My LGS doesn't even stock them above 125. Anything larger is custom order.

I'm kinda in the same boat, looking for a 180-250 gallon and while I can pick up a used one locally for $900 (stand and all), it's a little on the tall side and not 100% what I'm after.

Seems prices have doubled if not more on stuff since I took a few years break.
