HI... I am debating between getting Red's or Caribe, I know everybody says Caribe's are way cool and a must have. Thats why I am asking this question so I don't miss out on something. They look basically the same as reds? I have a 180 gallon on the way and will start setting it up towards the end of the month. Advantages and disadvantages to both would help me a ton! Thanks! With red bellies you can fit more in a tank then cariba since their less territorial. Also they're a lot cheaper then cariba and are more common so their easier to get.

But cariba are more aggressive, but are more expensive then reds.

Caribas!! Just dont know how long I've been looking for 'em!!
Theeir appearance do look similar to reds, but they're less skittish, meaner attitude, soon to be rare and have better feeding frenzy (in my opinion).

BTW: Where are you getting them from??

I know a good rule of thumb is 1 red per 20 gallons.. what about Caribe?? I per 25 gallons?? Also Reds some time fin nip and rarely body bites occur.. What about Caribe? People say on here they are more aggressive?? towards each other?? I don't want to spend a ton of money and have them rip themselves apart... Thanks Jake

A Tiger or a Cat? come on...!

Get Cariba and you won't regret...i truly believe Cariba is the advanced version of Reds...of course always depends of what are you looking for...a fish thats always hiding behind a rock or the aggresive version that will show why Piranhas are feared for...!

So if I were to go with Caribe.. how many for a 180? I really don't like the weeding out theory on this kind of fish being so expensive! So would 6-7 do ok in a tank of this size? Starting them at the 3 inch range? I don't want 2 or 3 of them to be killed by one another or are they not aggressive towards each other just at everything else??? Thanks

6-7 will do fine...and you have enough room for 2-3 more (for a total of 9-10 Cariba)...they are aggressive towards each other but if you have them well fed with plenty of room it should not be any problem!

Believe me, you will never regret buying Cariba, still, if you are concern about money you can go for a Mixed Pygo Tank (4-5 Reds with 4-5 Caribas)...another nice choice!

i would go for cariba but as far as colour and attitude goes is it not the difference between wild and tank bred .as most natts are tank bred they are not as colourfull and wild p's in general (and they are exeptions to the rule) will be more aggresive than tank bred.also wild reds have better colour than tank bred ones .as most cariba are caught wild they may seem more aggresive than reds .anybody got any wild reds to confirm this as this is just an opinion not fact i may be wrong
