I was thinking today about custom building my own fish tanks, maybe a few hundred gallons. has anybody ever tried this before? I was thinking maybe some 1/2" thick angled steel and some really thick glass would do the trick, along with some aquarium silicone.

1/2" steel is major over kill, 1/4" is too much, I would think 1/8" is more than enough

why not make an acrylic one with the plans in the links forum, then you need no frame and no worries about silicone sealing
