i just got back from school and my 55 gallon tank is extemeley cloudy and when i look in it i can see all the clouds moving around and when i was looking at it last night it was perfectly fine?

Do you have any uneaten food anywhere ? i would check the filters also

i cleaned my filters this mornign they had a bit of left overs but i took it out and at the top of my water it looks like oil

what did you last feed them ?

I would do a gravel vac just to be sure

okay ya i just fed them some shirmp like i usauly do, i talked to a fish person and they said that my tank might juts be starting to cylcle but ive had it since chirstmas so i dont think so

Yeah lots of foods, particularly fatty meats, will leave an oily look on the top of your water. Obviously you should do a water change anyways though.

Did you cycle before you put the fish in ?

not realy i had a filter that came with the kit and i put it on my other tank for about a month before and then i put it on my new tank when i got it and put the fish in right away

so i changed 30 percent of the water this morning so i shouldent change anymore right

IF you know anyone with a fish tank ask them of you can squeeze some goo out of their filter media or if you really trust your LFS you could ask them. That should speed up the cycle.

my dad has a fish tank thats been running for about 6 months, so wat do i take out of the filter, ive already poured in some cylce and ive put in some stuff that says it makes ammonia non toxic

If your other tanks are fully cycled just squeeze some from that media into the tank.

No dont take any more out , your takeing the established bacteria out , and if so it has to re-build again ..

so wat do i take out of the filter,

Well if that tank is cycled , pull the filter pads out and as much rocks from that existing tank ...and put them in , this should speed up the process
