my parents brought me home a mayan god statue for my fish tank from cancun, mexico......i've had it in a bucket with hot water for a couple hours.....what else do i need to do

I've heard that baking soda is a good way to decontaminate tank items, can anyone back this up???

Other than that I'd say as long as it doesn't have any metals on it then you should be good. maybe boil it to be sure any bacteria on it is killed

be careful if it is painted. you never know how that will hold up under water, it may start to flake off and ruin your statue, not to mention what it could do to the water
