a couple of monthes ago i purchased a 5" rhom.he tore the other fish up at the pet store
so i assumed that he was the toughest on.however just the oposite,he is so shy he never comes
out till the lights go off.and he hides where no one can see him.so basically it looks like a empty 46g fish tank.is there any thing i can do too make him more agrressive?i already turned the temp too 82.

I bought a 4 inch Rhom in January. For the first month and a half he never left his "spot" behind his favorite green plant. Never. Then I would occasionally see him move around at night when I had the lights off. He would never eat in front of me, always in the dark. When I woke up, the feeder or the food would be gone.

Since mid February he has been swimming around lots. This past week, he started opening up more. He swims around all of the time now, during the day and at night. He is even active when I sit right next to the tank. I thought that he would never do this. Three days ago, I put my finger up to the glass and he looked at it for like ten seconds and then he swam headlong into the glass trying to bite my finger through the glass. He hasn't done it since and I don't know if he'll ever do it again. I was about to sell him a week after I got him but I got attached to the little guy and his "personality."

Maybe he just needs some more time, but then again maybe he will never open up.

If you want an asskicker, then sell him and do the search. The truth is that you may never get one that you're happy with. Sometimes we have to accept them for the shy beasts that they are.

Defintely give him time to adjust. My 7" Rhom didn't start to come out till about 6 weeks after I got him. As a matter of fact I had posted a thread "Shy Rhom" on this forum because of my concern. He eventually came around. Now when sees me approach the tank he greets me by coming to the front of the tank and by snapping his jaws together. Give him a little time. He'll be alright

As with most fish, again it depends on the individual. I have a 5" Rhom (that I havent seen in 2 months) that usually swims alot, attacks the glass and would eat usually. My other 8" on the other hand, has alot more characteristics as with other peoples Rhoms. Tilts on its side, shy most of the times, doesnt eat in front of me but does devour feeders when im not in the room or at night when im asleep.

well right now i have three plants bunched up so he can hide.on the thought that if he felt more comfortable he would adapt to the tank faster.since that didnt work maybe i should take up the plants.or should i give him more time?
