I just wondered if anyone has experience with mixing a smaller piraya with larger reds. I have a 75 gallon with a 6 inch red and a 7 inch red. Fishpost has 4 inch pirayas. I was thinking about trying to keep one of these little guys with my reds. Should I get a 6 inch piraya instead?

i would go with the 6'' only an extra $50 i think.
i added a 4'' piraya a month ago and sold 2 8'' reds only keeping my 2 5'' + reds as its not worth the risk on such an expensive fish.
you could grow it out in another tank i think thats what scarfish is doing at the moment with a 4'' piraya, i would have done this but dont have a tank big enough
definately get a piraya though they are amazing fish and rons fish are always exellent condition. the one i got was shipped for @ 30 hours before i got it home and was swimming about within 45 minutes of getting in the tank and eating after 2 hours

Id go with a lil smaller sized Piraya.. something about 5-6" with your reds. Pirayas are greedy asses and will most dominate your reds from time to time. Also another thing about Piraya is their sensetivity to good water perimeters. Just letting you know..

i took 2 reds roughly 6-7" each from their 75 gallon tank when i bought my 125 and the same day i switched them in i added 1 piraya about 4" and 2 caribe each about 4" - the reds took on a parental attitude almost and the little ones followed them and hid behind/near them - then 2-3 days later i added 1 more piraya about 5 inch and he did fine as well.

I added 4" Cariba (3 of them) with 2 6.5" Natts and had no problems, if anything the cariba beat on the reds, but individual results may very
Go with the big guy if ya can. He could be fine. Or he could not. I have had some success. And some Failure. And had to get rid of some fish. I added a 7 inch piraya with some 8 inch reds and a 10-11inch red and had to get rid of the big one. Because of the piraya was not backing down from him.
