Has anyone got pictures of the dying process?

I mean i seen em at my local fish store, and i didnt buy them cause i thought "hmmm painted eh?" (yes im canadian =P)

i know the fish guy and he's not a franchise, its completly indipendant business.. and i could maybe explain it to him, but like a picture says a thousand words right?

The fish in this like aren't dyed, but are genetically engineered. DNA coding for a fluorescent protein is introduced into the fish, so the fish never gets stresed in a dying process.

BUT......

This does open up the whole moral issues behing genetic engineereing debate.

yeah, those fish are illegal here because of the process. I just found out how fish are dyied and it's wrong. also found out from the same article that fish do feel pain eventhough most people beleive that they don't

i think i saw something bad at a private lfs. i saw what looked like albino cories and angelfish with red(but more pinkish) pastel colored dye. it was sad. now people are branching off to more fish. they even made some pathetic(sp?) name for these cories and angelfish.

the glass fish already looks unique.

*edit: they only had dyes on their forhead.

Would,nt the knowledge of the fish being punctured in the dying process prevent people from buying the fish. This would make it more prone to diseases. That alone would prevent me from buying.

here we are 2 years later and more and more fish are still being dyed, also while reading this thread i found another interesting point. There doesnt seem to be guidelines for animal cruelty when it comes to fish. I know this thread is old but its a current issue and people really need to see whats going on. PM me if you want to try to find a way to stop it. I don't have all or really any answers right now but i'm not gonna watch this go on for 2 more years.

it perfectly ok to bring a thread like this back from the dead

no matter how old it is.

im all for helping try to stop this practice, but i wouldnt know were

to start or how to organize it.

maybe finding out who sells painted fish and making a list would be

a good start

I think this is always a good topic to bring back as well. A list is good. I've thought about more drastic, greenpeace-type measures like informing their customers as they come in. By FAR, most people who buy these fish dont know what was done to them. Informing the customers may be the way to go.

Actually just made myself think (dont laugh, I do it all the time). Maybe stores that DONT have painted or dyed fish can put up posters or other information on what is done to injected fish. This would work! Number one because people often go to more than one pet store, and Number two because the stores that put this information up would be profitting, because people would boycott the other stores and go to their store.

Anyone want to start work on this? I think p-fury could do some great work by the number of members we have in so many states (and countries). All we have to do is get someone to design the poster/flyer. Someone else to print a ton of them. Then we mail them to members everywhere to give to the stores that DONT carry these abused fish. I'm going to take a chance and throw this to the lounge where the qualified folk might see this....

Hey Freez, I forgot how to put images in these tutorials, can you grab the pic out of the lounge that works as a "Support Stores that dont Support Dyeing" flyer?

Here's the link for now:
