Discusmel's fish ^

Scientific name: Acanthopelmus Kuhlii
Common name: Kuhli Loach, coolie loach
Genus: Acanthopelmus
Order: Cypriniformes
Class: Actinopterygii
Family: Cobitidae
Origin: South East Asia, India, Sumatra, Borneo, Malaya, Java

Minimum Tank Size:
10 U.S. gallons
Tank Setup: The substrate should be very fine gravel or sand, Kuhli’s like to burrow in the substrate and they will use their barbels to shift through the substrate for food, so you have to be careful to use something that’s not going to injure your fish. A lot of hiding places, like caves and driftwood with a heavy planting, Kuhli’s like to hide during the day and most of the time they will seem to disappear on you and you may not see them for a long time, if you do get worried make sure to check your filter cause these guys can get into some tight places.

Temperament: Peaceful, shy, you can keep one but it may not be as active as keeping a small group of four or more. They seem more playful and active in groups. But I still wouldn’t plan on seeing them that much because they are a nocturnal fish and will be more active at night and early morning.
Compatibility: Great for smaller community tanks, like tetras, angles, and anything not big enough to eat it. I think it adds a little something different to the tank.

Water Type: Fresh, 75*F to 80*F, pH 6.5 to 7.5, dH 4 to 15

Size: 3 to 4 inches
Appearance: Yellow to pinkish base with approximately 12 to 20 thick brown to black stripes. All the fins are transparent and barbels around the mouth. The body is elongated and eel like and is a bit unique to most of the loaches available.

Sexual dimorphism: Very difficult to tell apart
Breeding: Not often done on purpose in the home aquarium. It’s usually accidental and when it happens they will intertwine up near the surface and the eggs will be bright green.

Feeding: Bottom feeders, they are very good at finding left over food in the substrate which is why lots of people get these fish, they do a good job at helping keep things clean. Even though they will find the left over food, supplemental feeding it required. Foods like blood worms, tubifex worms, freeze dried food that sinks, frozen food, and wafers will work.

Other Information: Kuhli’s are scale less fish so if you fish does get sick make sure you take any precautions to use the medications in does safe for scale less fish.

great profile, i just saw these guys at the lfs, they're pretty cool remind me of eels or little worms. They're always trying to burrow into the gravel.

These guys are fantastic. Great bottom feeders and snail eaters.

My addition to this profile is when having khulis in a tank it is very important to be extremely careful when do any gravel vac'ing as they do like to burrow and such and you wouldn't want to accidently kill one by cutting it in half or anything.
