the blood parrot came form, dont know how much truth there is to this but thought it was worth

a look.

It is a popular opinion that the hybrid "Red Blood Parrot" was "created" in Tawain, in the late eighties, by breeding a (male) Cichlasoma citrinellum (Midas Cichlid) with a (female) Cichlasoma synspilum (Quetzal Cichlid)

Theres hundreds of theories as to where they came from, some believable, others tatally rediculous. I heard one person say goldfish x pacu!
I think the midas x severum is the most likely, i say this as in my opinion you can see both of these fish when you look at a parrot fish. And the temprement can sometimes be aggresive like the midas, or sometimes pretty docile like a severum
Old enough to know better, young enough not to care

I read some where that they are likely a mostly pure pink convict that has a wierd mutation and is dyed. Now i did not believe it for an instance until I found at a pet store an obviously sure red top zebra (Psuedotropheus or Metriclima sp.), with the same sort of head and mouth, which could have occured in a pure or a hybrid so i guess that doesnt prove anything, just stating an example and a theory i heard.

The orginals probably don't have Convict blood. However, in pursuit of the $$, people discovered that a female Blood Parrot crossed with a Convict produces fish which look tolerably like Parrots, but in greater numbers and more quickly. These fish are usually called "Jellybean Parrots," and unfortunately, are often dyed, as you say.
